Named after the Big Carine Swamp and the Small Carine Swamp in the area, the suburb of Carine in Carine, Western Australia was once part of the large Hamersley Estate. This estate was subdivided to include suburbs such as Hamersley, Watermans Bay and North Beach.
Carine is traversed by a portion of Reid Highway which has separated the old section as well as the caravan park from the rest of the suburb. Beach Road can be found north of Carine while Mitchell Freeway lies to the east. Meanwhile, Marmion Avenue lies to the west while North Beach Road is located south of Carine. Tourists and residents can easily reach Carine and other parts of Western Australia through the Warwick railway station.
Carine Regional Open Space is the main attraction in this suburb. It is a wetland reserve which is centered on two natural lakes. Tourists can hike or cycle around the reserve to see rare waterbirds, turtles, and various critters and wildlife. This reserve also has a playground and sports facilities at its northern portion.
The area where the suburb is located had remained undeveloped until the 1960s. Today, it is mostly a residential suburb comprised mostly of single lots and detached dwellings. Residents of Carine shop at Carine Glades Shopping Center or at the neighbouring Centro Warwick and Karrinyup Shopping Center.
School children from kindergarten to Year 7 attend Carine Primary School while older students go to Carine Senior High School located adjacent to the primary school. In fact, the school grounds of these two schools merge and provide students a large area for playing and other activities.
Marmion, Watermans Bay and North Beach are located west of Carine while Karrinyup lies South. To the north of the suburb are Duncraig and Padbury while Warwick and Hamersley lie east.
